Sarmatia - Concept

  • Project type: Residential
  • Year: 2021
  • Status: Conceptual project
  • Location: Rudnik, SRB
  • Area: 286 m²

The chosen location for the building is located on the edge of the forest in a rarely populated region of the Rudnik mountain in Serbia.
On our first visits to the site, each time, a herd of roe deer with a stag was observed passing right in front of the future construction site.
The building had to be open to nature but at the same time protect the inhabitants from the harsh mountain climate.
The slope of the terrain, the movement of the sun, and the wind rose, were some of the factors, determining and organizing the functional scheme of the building.
Climatic features such as the amount of sunny (cloudy) days and rainfall were also studied in detail because the building had to be self-sufficient to operate as an “off-grid” unit.
Single-stepped foundations were chosen for foundations to minimize the interference with the environment. The visible roof wooden structure, straw panels, and clay plasters were the finishing touches to the building, with which the inside-out spaces, wild nature, and habitable living environment merged in unison and blurred their so-called boundaries.
